Medicare will never call you unsolicited and ask you to give your personal or private information. If someone threatens to cancel your health benefits if you don’t share your personal information or asks you for money, hang up and call Medicare immediately at 800-MEDICARE (800-633-4227).

To protect enrollees’ personal information, between April 2018 and April 2019 CMS removed Social Security numbers from Medicare cards and replaced them with unique Medicare Beneficiary Identifiers (MBIs). If you have questions regarding Medicare cards, contact Medicare at the number above.
